“I am committed to this community, our businesses, our families, and the vibrant culture of activism and engagement that makes Northampton a special place to live, perform, work, and raise a family”

Garrick Perry is a longtime resident of the Pioneer Valley, (who has lived) living in the downtown and South Street neighborhoods of Northampton for nearly 20 years. Garrick is the lead vocalist for the Alchemystics, a hip hop and reggae band that performs throughout the Valley and East Coast, and is manager of the downtown business Bishop's Lounge. As the father of two children in Northampton schools, with both him and his spouse working downtown, Garrick is deeply embedded in the Northampton arts, school and business communities.

Garrick moved to the Valley in 1997 to attend Amherst college, and graduated in 2001 with degrees in both English and Psychology. Hailing from the Washington, DC metro area known as the DMV (District, Maryland, and Virginia), Garrick has a long-held passion for comic books, gaming in all forms, and music. He furthered his skills and pursued his talents while in college, especially through hip hop and reggae music performance.

From his experience growing up in the DMV, Garrick developed a strong commitment to social action and civic engagement early in life, working and volunteering with organizations focused on environmental and social justice initiatives.

After beginning his work as a solo artist promoting artistic and musical events across the Valley, Garrick joined local mainstay The Alchemystics in 2004, and founded a six-man hip hop group, The Problemaddicts, in 2006. Garrick has worked in many Northampton businesses, organized and led performing events, and supported the arts. He currently manages Bishop’s Lounge, one of Northampton’s only (independent) music venues, where he oversees and directs operations and is responsible for engaging the artists and performers for nightly music and spoken-word events.

Garrick and his partner Stephanie have two young daughters who attend local schools, and live in the heart of the South Street neighborhood where they have rented their home for nearly 15 years. In their free time, Garrick and his family enjoy music festivals, getting outdoors, kayaking, and camping. Garrick is a self proclaimed “omni-nerd”, who is one of the hosts of The B.E.G.I.N. Podcast and is a regular attendee at the national ComiCon convention in San Diego, CA.

“Community service and activism have always been a part of my life.”
